Please note: The spaces can only be booked by Frank Lee Leisure & Fitness members for their children and they are required to bring the child to the lessons each week.

 

Our Swimming Lessons offer Children of all ages the chance to learn to swim. Whether it's their first splash or completing their 1500m badge our lessons cater for all. Working towards the Swim England journey, your child can learn the swim skills they need for life not just swimming one length.

  • The lessons run on Saturday mornings between 8am & 11.30am.
  • Each lesson is 30 minutes long & the course runs for 12 weeks.
  • The course costs £60.
  • The spaces can only be booked by Frank Lee Leisure & Fitness members for their children and they are required to bring the child to the lessons each week.

To assist in finding the right level for your child below is an overview of the swim levels for Children.

DUCKLINGS A chance for toddlers to enjoy learning to swim with help from parents or guardians. For children 3 years +.
STAGE 1 Developing a feel for the water, basic 'class' scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids, e.g. arm bands, floats etc. Children must be 5 years + to join this class.
STAGE 2 Developing safe entries to the water, including jumping in, floating and travelling through the water. Swimmers may use aids, e.g armbands, floats, etc.
STAGE 3 Developing safe entries into the water, including submersion, travelling up to 10 metres on the front and back, push and glide into rotations and water safety knowledge.
STAGE 4 Developing the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming 10 metres to a given standard as directed by Swim England.
STAGE 5 Developing 'watermanship' through sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation, also performing all strokes to the given standard as directed by Swim England.
STAGE 6 Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing; developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.
STAGE 7 Developing quality stroke technique up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout stages 1 – 7.

Once they have achieved level 7 they have the competency to swim effectively over a prolonged distance.

Through a competence in water, your child will have more FUN, is more likely to be active and follow a healthy lifestyle, and more likely to actively participate in sport throughout their lifetime.

CURRENT TERM DATES
Saturday 14th April to Saturday 14th July (NO LESSONS ON 26th MAY AND 2nd JUNE).

NEW 12 WEEK TERM DATES
Saturday 8th September to Saturday 8th December (NO LESSONS ON 20th and 27th October)

- Children who are on the current course can renew from Saturday 14th July
- New Enrolments for Children NOT ON the current course can join from the following week (Parents must be Frank Lee Members)

Your child will be assessed at the end of every term & will receive a badge and certificate if they complete the standard required to achieve that level. Once on the course you have the chance to rebook your child at the end of each term. The class timetable changes each term so times are subject to change but you will be informed.
